Meet Sammy the African Serval – Our Newest Resident!

November 11, 2024

Sammy arrived at Popcorn Park in October, where he will live the life he deserves—wild at heart, yet forever safe and cared for among our exotic Big Cats!

Meet Sammy, a striking African Serval who now calls Popcorn Park Animal Refuge home!

Sammy joined us in October 2024, just shy of his 2nd birthday. Though he was loved dearly in his former home, his needs as a wild animal simply couldn’t be met in a domestic setting. Recognizing this, his previous owner made the compassionate choice to bring him to Popcorn Park, where he could have the space and care suited to his unique nature.

In many places, owning a serval is either illegal or requires special permits due to their wild nature and complex needs.

Despite common misconceptions, servals like Sammy are not suited for life as household pets; their natural instincts, high energy, and need for space make a sanctuary the ideal environment for them to thrive. Sammy now has a safe, enriching habitat that allows him to live more like the wild animal he is, surrounded by expert caregivers who understand his needs.

Sammy is truly captivating with his big, expressive eyes, cream-and-brown spotted coat, and those iconic, oversized ears that make servals so unique. Known for their high energy, intelligence, and remarkable agility, African Servals like Sammy can leap up to ten feet in the air—a skill that helps them in the wild as expert hunters.

At Popcorn Park, Sammy has the freedom to explore his spacious enclosure, bask in the attention of caring staff, and greet visitors with the curiosity and playfulness that’s so typical of his species.

We hope you will stop by and join us in welcoming Sammy to his new home!
