A Cat-tastic Sucess Story
Meet mom Tigger, and babies Popsicle and Lollipop! They are part of a 14-cat rescue that took place recently in New Egypt, NJ, when a resident called us at AHS/Popcorn Park in desperate need of help. Like many animal lovers, she began feeding a couple of, “stray cats” that turned up long ago. Over time, those couple of cats turned into a small colony and soon, she noticed pregnant mothers and kittens. She knew the colony would soon be out of control, so she reached out to us for help.
Our Animal Control Officer, Maria, was on the job immediately! With the help of the homeowner, a drop-trap that was supplied by AHS friend, Elaine Bigelow, and lots of hard work, Maria was able to safely trap eight adult cats and six kittens within a week. She evaluated every one of the adults and determined that three males and one female were true feral cats. All of the males were neutered and the female, who appeared to be nursing, was flank-spayed so that she could continue to nurse. They were given vaccinations and returned to the property where they will continue to live good, safe lives.
The other adult cats were very friendly and will be available for adoption! One female is nursing four kittens and is currently in foster care. Tigger, a super sweet silver tabby, and her two kittens, Popsicle and Lollipop, are with us at AHS/Popcorn Park. We discovered that little Popsicle had a serious head wound that appears to be a bite of unknown origin. Her bite is being treated and the little family will remain with us while they are all under medical care.
We’d like to thank the homeowner who recognized the need for intervention in this case, our ACO Maria, who works tirelessly to ensure a good outcome for all animals, and our supporters who contribute to our TNR Fund, which enables us to do this important work for community cats. Please donate to our TNR Fund here to help and stay tuned for more on the adorable Tigger and family!
