A Swan who got Himself in a Jam Set Free

A Matawan resident called over the weekend about a swan that got himself into a jam. Somehow while bottom feeding he managed to get a key-ring stuck on his bottom bill and trapped his tongue down under it. They noticed it on Thursday and thought it might slip off but when it was still there on Saturday, they really started to worry. When we arrived he was sleeping on shore with his head tucked under his wing which allowed us to get pretty close without him knowing and net him. He didn’t want to open his mouth but after a short wrestling match we were able to do that and slide the key-ring off. We got him out of the net and returned him to the lake with his family where he started eating right away, something he hadn’t done since last week.
